Aircraft modeling has undergone significant changes over the decades - both in technology and personal preferences. Magazines like American Aircraft Modeler, American Modeler, Air Trails, Flying Aces, Flying Models, Model Airplane News, Aero Modeller, R/C Modeler, and Young Men • Hobbies • Aviation • Careers, Model Aviation (c1959), and other magazines including even Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, and Mechanix Illustrated, were the best venues for capturing snapshots of the status quo of the day. Still, many things never change, so much of the old content is relevant to today's modeler. Whether you are here to wax nostalgic, or are interested in learning history, hopefully you will find what you are seeking. As time permits, I will be glad to scan articles for you. Here are some of the advertisements you might remember. All copyrights are hereby acknowledged.

Just recently, I acquired the 1959 set of Model Aviation magazines that were published concurrently with American Modeler for at least 1959 and 1960. The physical size is only 5½" x 7½". They had no table of contents. Content was primarily reporting on contests and official AMA business. There is a good graphic on the AMA website that shoes the publication history.

Here is the description given by the AMA for Model Aviation:

"MODEL AVIATION is the monthly news bulletin of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and is "The Independent Voice of American Aeromodeling." Published by the AMA at 1025 Connecticut Avenue, N.W., Washington 6, D. C. Editor: Clifford J. Allum. News and photos of club and contest activity always welcome for publication. Copyright 1959 by the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Permission is given for reprint or quote provided source is given. Subscription rate to non-members is $1 per year. For subscriptions outside the United States, add 50 cents for postage. Second class postage paid at Washington, D. C. "
